Who’s excited about the official start to summer on Saturday? I know I sure am! With the solstice on Saturday, I am finding myself pretty busy with making summer plans at the moment. The biggest highlight of our Summer this year is our move to Hastings.

Saturday celebrates Summer solstice – the first day of Summer. It’s the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere when we enjoy the most sunlight and the shortest night. The sun rises to its maximum height, bathing the Arctic Circle – including parts of Sweden, Finland, Norway, and all of Iceland – in twenty-four hours of daylight. Being born and brought up in Norway, I remember growing up; we used to celebrate this day with a bonfire, bbq, beer (ever tried brewing your own with complex brewery equipment?) and being outdoors all day and night long. It was magical!

First Day of Summer

It’s only this morning I realised and remembered how excited I used to be for this day. Over the years, life had taken over (as it does) and I had completely forgotten about the importance of this day in my childhood, but I will make sure this doesn’t happen again!

And most importantly; I will create a new tradition and celebrate this day – every year with Khushi – in an attempt to keep my childhood memories alive ♡

First Day of Summer

Khushi’s will soon break off school, the weather is getting warmer and it’s simply time to relax and recharge.
