You’ll have at least one friend in your life who is there for you through both the good and the bad times, and you’ll probably feel very fortunate indeed. Unfortunately, day-to-day life can get in the way, and you may lose sight of just how important they are to you.

It’s easy to take them for granted when they’re always around when we need them, but the truth is that lasting friendships require continued effort to keep them strong. Do you show your friends how much they mean to you on a regular basis? It doesn’t necessarily require words or gifts as there are plenty of other ways to ensure your friends feel appreciated.

Friend

Listening

Often the simplest way we can show our friends how much we value them is to listen to them when they need support. Everyone needs a friendly ear to talk to from time to time and if they know that you are there for them just as they have been for you, they will feel an enormous sense of comfort. You may not be able to solve their problem, but active listening and empathy will go a long way.

Loyalty

When your friend finds themselves in trouble or conflict with someone else, take their side and stick up for them. Showing loyalty in this way is invaluable as it will communicate that you are willing to go through bad times by their side, and not simply watch from afar.

Trust

Trust is the foundation of any strong relationship and if you don’t have trust in one another, then your friendship could crumble at the first hurdle. You and your friend should be able to confide in one another without the worry that your secrets or feelings will be passed on. This also includes following through on promises. Be their rock and keep your promises, and stay true to your word.

Treats

Occasionally, it’s good to treat your friend to show them your gratitude for their friendship. This could be treating them to a trip to the Movie Theater in Washington, D.C., and buying them a meal. You can even get some flowers for their home. Make it clear that the gift is simply because you want them to know how much they mean to you and that you don’t expect anything in return.

When it comes to their birthday or Christmas, you may want to push the boat out on a special gift such as Fine pearl jewellery which they can treasure for years to come. If you don’t have the money to spend on a treat, a handmade card or a handwritten letter which explains how much you value them will mean the world to them.

Cook for them

Another way to treat your friend and show them how much they mean to you is to cook for them. It may sound simple, but the act of taking the time and effort to prepare a meal or bake a cake just for them is a very powerful way to show love. It doesn’t need to be anything extravagant as even some freshly baked cookies waiting for her next time she comes round for coffee will put a smile on her face.
